A layer of green algae was seen smothering beaches and extending out several hundred metres into the Yellow Sea off the city, about 550km southeast of Beijing.
Residents of the city told AFP that Qingdao, which means 'Green Island', was prone to summer algae infestations but that this year's was noticeably worse. - Electric New Paper.
The appearance of the algae - described as a spongy sea weed.
'We're not exactly sure what sort of algae it is, but it's not kelp - it's very fluffy and spongy. It looks like the guys are sailing on grass,' said Australian sailing team director Michael Jones. - Electric New Paper
Isnt this kinda disgusting ? Like some scene you expect from movies like "The Day after Tomorrow" ?
Could this bloom be attributed to chemicals disposed by factories into the sea ? or is it just a natural phenomenom ?
The world must go green, in order to heal the wounds they dealt to Mother Nature, or is it a little bit too late for salvation ?
God bless this earth we are living in......
