To give or not to give ?

| | Comments (0)

Why do people volunteer their time or donate money to charity? Then again, why don't some people do what little bit they can for the less fortunate?

I been asking myself these questions for the past few days.
I give my time to charity, donate to the best (ok not always to the best) of my financial state and sponsor a child. My aim was a simple one, to give back to society a portion of what they given me and share what i had with those who need it more. My next aim is actually to go to those rural areas and help them build a school or something.

Few days back, i promised this particular charity organization to help out with their donation drive. To help poor needy children who needs both our love and attention (and some financial support). You'll be amazed by how poor and torn-apart some families are..
I approached my family members, friends and colleagues, with the hope that they will share my sentiments and donate a small bit (and i really meant a small bit) to charity. Of course, there were mixed reactions. Some donated readily, some only do after a lengthy coaxing session, and some rejected me flats. Some whom i expected will support my cause, let me down. Some i never expected support from, actually gave more. It's not a matter of how much you give at times, but how willing you are in giving.

So why don't they give ?
I can actually think a few reasons (not excuses) superficially.

1. The recent hu-has some 'black sheep' bodies had made really brought trust level down. How to give when you are in doubt, not knowing whether the money really go to the intended party or go to sponsor someone's fine dining experience instead.

2. Selfishness.
There are people out there who only care about their own well-being and not a damn about how the value of a plate of chicken rice can go about impacting the life of someone who needs it. If you can spend so much 'zhng-ing' your car, what the fuck are 2 freaking bucks to you? Worse off are those so called 'financial savvy' ones.. So far they are the biggest letdown of all.

Sorry for my superficialness.

I would use a phrase my friends used on me.

'you really don't look the charitable kind'

In life, you can't judge solely on first impression or a book by its cover, there's more to it than meets the eye......

If anyone wants to donate, drop me an email and i will ride down to your door step and collect your donation!

Changing for the better!

A perpentual latecomer i had always been for work. Today marks the start of a brand new day (to be precise, actually it started few days back), the old way is ditched, a new one replaces it.

A bad habit such as this should be eradicated as soon as possible. No one likes a latecomer, neither do I... I will be rejoining the public sector in less than 3 years time, such habit might translate to a loss of revenue in a fast-paced sector where usually time is money!

My lecturer frequently stressed the importance of value-adding oneself. To me, being an early bird is a way i value-add myself, to prepare myself for the impending exodus.

3 years is a short time, passing in a blink of an eye. Hopefully i can reach the target i had set for myself by then, becoming a graduate with some specializations in my field of choice.

This is just but the starting tip of a long long journey. The real cruncher starts when i begin my second career. That is the real do-or-die period. If you see me driving a whole new BMW 3 series by then,it means i had reach where i wanna be. If not? I am probably struggling to make ends meet.

God bless me! (though i dun believe in god, but heck it, it just seem suitable to include him here!) =)
